Native American Beadwork

St. Peters & Pauls Church Hall, St. George's Way, Standbridge Lane, Wakefield WF2 7NR

This enjoyable Meeting started at 11.00am with the Annual General Meeting following which all present were able to see examples of beadwork brought along by members.

Then, follolwing an excellent buffet lunch, we were introduced to Mark Sykes a man who has been fascinated since he was a boy by the Native Americans and their culture.  He has a wonderful collection of Native American artifacts, a selection of which he brought to show us.

He has a particular interest in their beadwork and quill work and the significance of the various designs. He has taught himself to do some of this work and uses this expertise to conserve some of the items in his collection. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his subject kept us enthralled for the afternoon and generated many questions annd comments
