The Society, a Registered Charity, was founded in 1977.
We are a well established Society with an enthusiastic interest in all things costume and textile, with a bias towards the historical.
We organise a programme of quarterly meetings in the North of England with lectures by guest speakers on a wide range of subjects and visits to private and public collections.
Members come from all walks of life, some with considerable knowledge of the subject, but many who are just enthusiasts keen to find out more. We are a friendly society welcoming new members and guests to join us.
If you are interested in any aspect of costume or textiles, particularly their history, then, perhaps the Society is for you?
We also produce a range of patterns available for purchase which are based on original museum pieces and can be ordered from us online.
2016 was the 200th Aniversary of Charlotte Bronte's birth. One of our patterns is of her Going Away Dress. For more details click on the PUBLICATIONS/PATTERN PACKS link.
