MEMBER'S OWN ROADSHOW

St. Peters & St. Pauls Church Hall, St. George's Way, Standbridge Lane, Wakefield WF2 7NR

This was a fabulous meeting in Wakefield where several members brought along cherished items to share with others.
It was an opportunity to enjoy a 'hands on' meeting, taking a look at a varied selection of items as varied as a Victorian skirtl lifter, jockey's jackets, a  traditional Ashkabad saddle bag, felted art work, a quilt which was rescued from the tip along with wonderful garments that have been passed down the family. We were also treated to a huge selection of fans, all part of Gilbert & Sullivan Vintage Theatre Merchandise.

After an excellent lunch, we were able to watch a new film, The Lacemakers, which covers the story of English lace from the 16C onwards.  It is a story of progress, of modernity and of inventions that helped revolutionise the way we work, dress and live today.  It concentrated on the manufacture of machine-made lace in Nottingham up to the present day. It was a useful introduction to the subject of our next meeting on 18 April next. Copies of the film are available to purchase. Go to thelacemakers.co.uk/
