OF COSTUME AND TEXTILES
Date:

Title:
'Stitched-up'
Venue:
Church House, Church Street, Ilkley

A large number of members and guests met in Ilkley on a lovely sunny winter day for a most enjoyable meeting.

In the morning we heard from Society member Sue Lancaster (Stitched Up and Fleeced) who told of her journey through school, art school and other opportunities as she explored embroidery. She brought many examples of her current work for us to see and enjoy, eager to explain the techniques she has developed

We were, told about a project,  `Roses from the Heart', a calico-memorial to the thousands of convict women transported to Australia. Members were encouraged to become involved by making a decorated bonnet to add to the project's collection.

After an excellent lunch, and time to socialise, Michelle Horton (from Duttons for Buttons) told us how she came to the world of buttons. This was followed by a guide to their up until 1900, with examples from her own collection to see and study.

The speakers were entertaining and informative, and seemed to enjoy the day as much as we did.
