It was more than two years since we held a meeting at this delightful venue, an imposing Grade I listed, Georgian country house and Italianate chapel, set in extensive grounds overlooking the town and surrounding countryside.
In the morning, our Hon. Secretary Sue Seeger spoke on the subject of "Warp and Weft" where she examined the use of textiles in dress over the centuries, from straight pieces of cloth to complex bias creations, exploring how the characteristics of a cloth and it’s structure often determined the design of a garment. Her talk was extensively illustrated with slides.
After a break for lunch during which members were able to look arouind the house, Julie Harrup, Cusworth’s recently retired Assistant Manager/Curator showed a selection of costume from the in-house collection which illustrated many of the points made in Sue Seeger's talk.
