Title:
Reminiscences of the 1940's; Memorabilia & Discussion
Venue:
The Ecumenical Church, Wesley Terrace/Street, Rodley, Nr Leeds.

We felt it time to offer an in-house meeting to which you could all contribute, share and/or just enjoy! To this end, we requested our members bring any suitable items or garments they had to illustrate the clothing of the Second  World War: the robust nature of Utility-wear etc, so that we could make a display for all to see and generate some discussion concerning the austerity of the era and the often extraordinary measures women took to ‘keep young and beautiful' at the time!

To get the ball rolling, Sue Seeger introduced the day by setting the wartime scene and identifying the status of the British   fashion industry at the time, using appropriate acetates and slides, with her own slant on growing up with Rationing!

After lunch, Anthea Bickley lead a ‘hands-on' session, looking in particular at the Government's ‘Make Do and Mend' promotion, again, to generate  memories of a period very few of us can forget.

As usual, our regular caterers provided a hearty lunch, with no hint of wartime rationing to consider!
