Considered 'one of the jewels in Doncaster's crown', Cusworth Hall is an imposing Grade 1 Georgian country house set in extensive grounds overlooking the town and surrounding countryside. The hall has recently undergone extensive restoration to reveal stunning features, such as ceiling paintings in the Italianate chapel, that have lain hidden for decades. By contrast, other areas of the house have been brought back to life in order to show activities 'below stairs', and chronicle the social history of this domain.
We were fortunate to welcome two local speakers for the day. Our own Grace Pacey is an accomplished teacher and lecturer in Antiques and historical textiles,Cheap Ugg Boots for Sale, renowned for her particular expertise in lace and embroidery. Grace furnished us with examples to illustrate her identification of laces and the aesthetics of design within the craft.
Julie Harrup is Cusworth's Assistant Manager/Curator whose social history and costume skills were on hold while she oversaw the hall's regeneration. Julie introduced Cusworth's current collections, which reflect their newly restored surroundings to show provincial clothes and pieces of interest.
For the more able there was also a visit to the attics to see additional items in store since before the refurbishment.
