Bedtime Stories - Chapter One

Temple Newsam's celebration of beds begins with the story of the restoration of the Queen Anne State Bed. Visitors will discover how a team of experts rescued the bed from collapse returning it to its original magnificence.
The bed was commissioned for Hinton House in Somerset for Queen Anne by John, lst Earl Poulett in 1711. After passing through the hands of two country houses, seven antique dealers and one museum the bed was in a terrible state and required extensive conservation.
After decades of research and eighteen months of restoration work the bed is finally complete. Draped in crimson silk and rich gold lace be the first to see this sumptuous bed, fit for a Queen.
